MA Challenge 1:  Rescue Raft

The survivors of the shipwreck have to figure out a way to survive the terrible storm, pounding waves, blinding lightning, and crashing waves by building a device to reach the tropical island they can see in the distance.  They have to work fast, before the ship sinks below the ocean forever, taking all the supplies with it!

MA Challenge 2:  Shelter

The survivors of the shipwreck have to figure out a way to provide shelter for the group.  Survival of the group depends on all the basic human needs being met.

The  LEGOCAD software program allows each group to make a permanent copy of their models.  The program also allows students to prepare pictures for their web page.
MA Challenge 3:
Water

Now the survivors of the shipwreck have reached the tropical island and are, at the moment, safe.  How can the group get a steady supple of fresh drinking water?
The group builds a machine to lower a bucket, capture the water, and pull it up for use.

This 5th grade student injured his leg, but works with rapt concentration  on the LEGO Miss Adventure Challenge.
Members of each group share the work of planning, writing, drawing, building, cadding, and web page writing.
This student is using the software LEGO CAD to build an electronic copy of his model
Testing their model to make sure it floats
Lowering the crane into the water to test the entire mechanism
MA Challenge 4:  Food

The survivors of the shipwreck have to figure out a way to get food for the group immediately, and as a steady supply.  Looking around the island the survivors see fruits, berries, roots, tubers, and various animals that might be eaten if caught.  Now, just how can we go about this in a logical way?

The members of each group must work as a team, as well as the entire group to accomplish a successful ending to our story.
MA Challenge 5:  Signal

The survivors of the shipwreck have to figure out a way to get off the island.  They have noticed that airplanes, ships, helicopters, and boats sometimes pass the island in the distance.  If they can build some mechanical device that will signal continuously their rescuers may appear!  Now just what should we build?

If we build a signal that attracts attention we may find help to be rescued from this island.
MA Challenge 6:  Explore

The survivors of the shipwreck have to figure out a way to explore the island.  The problem is that some of the island is swampy, some is submerged in water, some has steep hills, and other areas are flat with large rocks and forests.  Just what kind of vehicle should we build that will be able to navigate all of the island?

The writing of the sections of story and description of mechanical device is not easily accomplished.  When all the seven challenges are put together they must form one coherent story.
MA Challenge 7:  Rescue Off the Island

The survivors of the shipwreck have to figure out a way to get off the island and back to civilization!  They have worked really hard to stay alive, attract attention, and get back to their homes.  What kind of vehicle would get them all off the island safely?
