Our school newsletter will be published on the Internet bimonthly between August of 1998 and May of 1999. 

In so doing , we hope to create yet another enduring link between our students, their parents, and our staff.

Kindergarten- Mrs. Hensley
  • Mrs. Hensley and her students are excited because their classroom is going to be the home for four new multimedia computers.  Way to go!
  • Mrs. Hensley's students graduated on June 3, 1999.

Kindergarten- Ms. Leadman
  • Ms. Leadman's kindergarten class had a graduation ceremony on June 3, 1999.

First Grade- Mrs. Vest


 Second Grade- Ms. McGinnis

  • Ms. Dingess got married over the Spring Break.  We will all have to remember to call her a new name.  Congratulations Mrs. McGinnis!
  • We read "Thundercake" and made the cake with the other 2nd grade class.  It was a yummy lesson!

Second Grade- Mrs. Wagoner

  • The second grade class read the story, "Thunder Cake" and enjoyed baking and eating this story.  Be sure to look at the pictures of our delicious reading story!

Third Grade- Mrs. Hatfield
  • Mrs. Hatfield's 3rd Grade class visited Martha Elementary for a pen pal picnic.  Everyone had a delightful time.

Fourth Grade- Mrs. Cummings
  • Mrs. Cummings is sponsoring the Toyota "Science Matters" exhibit that will come to our school Thursday, April 22.  The exhibit is for the fourth and fifth grade students.
  • The fourth grade class is exploring endangered species this week, April 19-22.  They will be exploring cites on the Internet that will inform them of what is being done to nine particular creatures who are endangered.
  • Mrs. Cummings arranged for Mr. Boggess from the Cabell County Central Office to present StarLab '99 on May 3, 1999.  Thank you, Mr. Boggess!

  Fifth Grade- Mrs. Simon
  • One of the fifth grade students built a Lego Easter Bunny the week before Spring Break.  Mrs. Hamilton's pet bunny, Thumper, visited our classroom and was surprised to find another bunny playmate! 
  • SAT9 testing is next week, April 12-16.  Get plenty of rest and don't forget to eat a good breakfast.
  • We are continuing to work on the Marscape.  We plan to build a Mars Colony.  Thank you Mr. Brown for building the Marscape box.
  • Marshall University is participating in Math Awareness Month during the month of April.  The MU math students in Mrs. Hamilton's class will be driving our Mars Rover.  Check back for updates.  MU students are driving the Rover and observing our classroom.  They have seen our First Aid class and other activities.  Good driving, MU!
  • Officier Vance of the Barboursville Police Department is coming to our class to teach us theD.A.R.E.drug resistance program.  We will have our graduation in the Barboursville Park on May 19.  We can hardly wait!
  • Mrs. Pat Smith will be coming to our classroom starting April 19th to teach us about Basic First Aid.  If we listen closely and pass our exam we will receive a Red Cross Patch that certifies us as capable of using Red Cross Basic First Aid.
  • We were sent the book Mazes of Mars by the author, Patrick Merrell.  Mr. Merrell saw our Mars Colony on the Internet. We love the book!  Thank you, Mr. Merrell for visiting our site and sending us the book.
  • Mr. Homer Hickam, author of Rocket Boys, visited the Huntington Public Library back in the fall and spoke with Mrs. Hamilton about the DC Mars Red Rover project.  Mr. Hickum is from West Virginia and worked for NASA as a scientist specializing in rockets.
  • Our StarShine satellite was released on June 5, 1999 at 2:21am CDT.  We will be tracking it and reporting our observations for the next six months.  Remember we are mirror #533!
  • We went to Columbus to visit COSI and the Zoo. We had a great time!
  • We made student web pages from a variety of subjects.  Feel free to visit!
  • BMS visited to answer questions about the middle school next fall.  Thanks, BMS!
  • We graduated on June 3, 1999.  The PTA sponsored the refreshments for the reception afterward.  We invite you to take a look at our graduation ceremony.  Best wishes to all for the next school year!

Music- Mrs. Lutz
  • Mrs. Lutz presented the Spring Program at the April 19th PTA meeting.  The first and second grade classes performed several selections.  The program featured Songs About America and Songs About Dinosaurs.  Mrs. Martin, our art teacher, made the scenery with the help of the fifth grade students.  The performance was a great success!
Physical Education- Mr. Hetzer

  Davis Creek Elementary PTA
  • April 19 is our PTA meeting at 7:00pm.  Come out and help plan our carnival.
  • The Davis Creek School Spring Carnival will be April 23 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.  We need lots of workers! Everyone come out and have some fun!
  • April 27th Barboursville Middle School is hosting a dinner from 6:00-7:30pm along with an open house from 7:00-8:00pm.  Fifth grade students are welcome.  For more information call 733-3003.
  • Pansy Gibson and Nina Hanna, our school cooks for many years, retired at the end of the school year.  Our best wishes follow them.
  • The PTA sponsored the reception for the fifth grade students and their parents following the June 3 Awards Day.  The reception was a great success.
