Important Dates!

8/20 
Teachers report back to school.

8/26 
Students report back to school 8:00AM sharp! The school will not be open for students until 7:30AM.  Check the Cabell County Board of Education for the yearly school calendar.

8/26
Davis Creek Elementary will have the after school daycare facility open from 2:30 - 6:00.  The fee is $7.00 a day, or $30.00 a month, and parents must make arrangements with the office prior to that time.  Returning parents may just need to call to make arrnagements.

Students will bring home important information for parents to complete and return to school.  Students should also have a supply list from their classroom teacher.  Be sure to fill out the Emergency Blue Card and the Emergency Release forms with care as we will follow your instructions that are on the forms.  In the event of an emergency or early release due to threatening weather or other cause we will not be able to call parents.

Labor Day holiday/ No school 

9/2003
5th grade students will participate in Family Life Education class.  Watch for more information concerning Family Life Education in your student's bookbag.  Materials used to teach this unit will be available for preview by 5th Grade parents at the first PTA meeting on September 25, 2003 at 5:30PM, an hour before the Open House PTA meeting.

9/25/2003
Open House PTA meeting at 6:30PM.  Come out and meet your child's teacher, and the rest of the DC Staff.  Open House will conclude at 8:30PM.

Eagles' Nest is back at DC for the fourth and fifth grades this year.  We are excited to announce the return of this popular program from Cabell Midland High School.  They will send high school students each Thursday to teach a 30 minute lesson on good study habits, drug prevention, conflict resolution, peer pressure, secondary school life, and  other pertinent subjects.  Welcome back, Eagles' Nest!

Kindergarten- Mrs. Hensley
We are glad to welcome our new kindergarten class to our classroom and school.  We know you will have a wonderful experience.   Orientation will be on Monday, August 26, 2003 from 9:00 to 10:30AM.  Kindergarten students are to come with their parents and will leave with their parents.  Do not send Kindergarten students on the bus.
Welcome to Ms. Watts, our new Kindergarten Resource Teacher.  We know she will enjoy our school because we are the best!
VOLUNTEERS:  Thanks to those parents who said that they would help us out this year.  We will be in touch with you soon.
PTA:  The PTA does lots of great things for our kids!  J J J  Our first PTA Meeting will be on Tuesday, September 26th at 6:30 pm. This will be our Open House.  Support our school by joining our PTA!!!   It will be the best $3.50 you’ve ever spent!!!!!!!!!
ACADEMICS:  Now that we finally have the classes split-up, we can roll-up our sleeves and get to work!  As you will soon notice, our first Reading Lessons will target alphabet recognition (& introducing phonemes).   All this week, we will work on our introduction to the alphabet. CHECK YOUR CHILD’S BACKPACK EVERY DAY!  We will be asking for your child to bring items to school from time-to-time!  Your child will feel left out and sad if you don’t help him/her to join in the fun by keeping aware of what’s going on in our busy little classes!!  Our planning period is from 12:15 – 1:00 (may change – will let you know). ICECREAM
      The cost is 50 cents.
TREATS
     If your child’s bear stays “up” by following the “seven” Kindergarten Rules, they will win a treat.  Each day brings a new “chance”!  We love it when YOU help us by sending treats. Please no hard candies or balloons.

We have been busy getting our room and hallway ready for all the new first grade students.  This will be the best school year ever!

We are getting ready to welcome all our new second grade students back to school.

We are ready for all our new fourth grade challenges.  We are excited about a new math program Cabell County is initiating for third and eighth grades.
On October 2, 2003 my daughter made me a grandmother to Jackson Fetty, the son of Eric and Stephanie Fetty. 

Fourth Grade-Mrs. Reichenbecher

We will be ready on August 26th for our new fourth grade class.  We are excited about our new  school year.  Welcome back!

Fifth Grade- Mrs. Simon

Our year is ready to start and we will be the best fifth grade class we can be!
We are looking forward to working with Mrs. Hamilton and the LEGO sets.  Be sure to check out our LEGO projects throughout the year!  Check out the DC LEGO Site Map for our latest robotic creations.  This year we will have to have permission for every picture we put on the DC web page, so I will be sending home many pages for your signature.  The first pages will be on display Thursday evening, September 25, 2003 during Open House.
Our sympathies and thoughts are with the Americans as we remember  those whose lives have been changed because of the September 11th, 2001 events throughout our country. 
  Thanks to the DC PTA for allowing us to sign up for the First LEGO League!  Our 2003 "Mars Mission Challenge" isn't in yet, but should be any day.

I wish to welcome everyone to our exciting music classes.
We have started working on our Christmas Program entitled, Super Gift from Heaven.
I also wish to inform everyone that my daughter has made me a grandmother.  I now am grandmother to twins!

We will be  working toward our Presidential Physical Fitness tasks all year.
