Davis Creek Elementary
Boom Challenge Project

The Boom Project was built by 5th grade students who were given the same set of 179 LEGO elements.   The boom was to be designed with the counter balance on the table and the long side extended out from the table.  The goal was to make the boom 36 inches long, or more if possible, and still retain the counter balance that was self supported.  The students worked to design and build their booms to meet the specifications while applying differing building techniques.

Bridges are structures that require challenging designs too
The Davis Creek Elementary 5th grade teams were all successful in
planning, designing, and building their boom to meet the specifications
of balancing a boom 36 inches and kept it level.
Other structures were also studied.   The suspension bridge is an
example of one of the structures studied.
