Davis Creek Elementary's first grade class
was visited by the stork! Actually, a monarch butterfly emerged
from
its chrysalis, dried and flexed its wings, and got ready for its trip
to
either Florida or Mexico to meet up with others of its kind. One
of the students in Mrs. Vest's class brought in the caterpillar and
provided
milkweed for it to eat until it spun its chrysalis, hibernated, and
then
emerged on Wednesday, September 27, 2000. The first grade class
was
gracious enough to include all the students at our school in this
amazing
spectacle. On Friday, September 29, 2000 the class gathered
around
on the playground while Mrs. Vest carefully put Ms. Butterfly on a
student's
finger. After hesitating for just a few seconds the butterfly
took
to the air and fluttered away in a southerly direction. We all
felt
as if we were saying goodbye to a member of our family! Bon
Voyage!
