Davis Creek Elementary 5th Grade
LEGO Projects

These LEGO Projects were done using the LEGO Simple Motorized Machines Kit.  The teacher's lesson plan notebook to accompany this set can be purchased from LEGO Dacta.  The introductory lessons help familiarize the students with the LEGO elements.  One of the activities for each section is this spinning game.  The sections are:
Structures & Forces, Levers, Wheels & Axles, Gears, and Pulleys.  Instructions for teachers and student activities are included, as well as copy masters and instructor background information, introductory activities, classroom management, and a glossary of terms.  Key words and key concepts are notated for the instructor and student.

Ready to play
Choosing elements

To make the spinner:
1.  Cut out the wheel
2.  Use an axle in the center
3.  Use bush stops to hold it on

To play Element Bingo the student must first cut out the wheel, use an axle as the middle, and reveiw the rules.  The students take turns spinning.  The spinner lands on an element that the student must then find in the LEGO Dacta Simple Motorized Machine Set and place on the lid.  Play continues until ten elements are selected.  The students are then given three minutes to build a model.  If time permits the students may name their model and write about it.  Students explain to each other what they have built.
