Miss Adventure
#4 Food Challenge

The Miss Adventure #4 Food Challenge was to find a supply of survival food for the victims of the Miss Adventure shipwreck.  We built a system that provides the islanders with duck eggs, pineapple trees, a goat for milk, and pigs for meat.  We built pens to house the animals and a system to gather the food and distribute it fairly among the islanders.

MA #4

The "fish" is in the water.  The mother duck watches the baby.  The pig and cows eat from the trough.  The tree has coconuts.  Everything is safely fenced in.  Our Miss Adventure people will have food to eat.

Student Journal:

I have learned that finding food and getting it are two very different things. I wanted to eat something good so I decided to search the island for any natural source of food that may be available.  I found some ducks, which lay eggs and some coconut trees.  The coconuts will give us coconut milk and also the meat of the coconut to eat.  I'm sure there may be other fruits and berries on this tropical island.  I must organize a search mission at our first opportunity.  Another area to search would be the ocean and the bay.  Many kinds of fish, including shell fish, should be there for us to catch, clean, cook, and eat.  We can also use the raft to go out onto the ocean and fish for larger fish.  We can use the salvaged tools to dig in the sand close to the ocean for clams.  The streams on the island that gets the tide will be a source of lobsters and crabs.  We will build some traps for the lobsters and crabs.  If we watch the animals carefully we can see what they choose to eat and then we will know what is edible.
