Davis Creek Elementary
Mystery Object 2000

These students took directions written in 2D and built a 3D object.  They used the front, right, left, and
back views to complete the "Mystery Object".  This project appears more simple than it is to build.
Spatial reasoning must be employed to manipulate the figure in your mind.

Students also labored to build matching figures by communicating.  A barrier is put up so that
students can not see each other's work.  They take turns placing LEGO bricks and describing it
to their partner.  The partner tries to duplicate the build, and then takes his/her turn.  When the
figure is finished they compare the results.
Students also draw their creations from all four sides.

Instructions and clarification is always useful.
Students respond quickly to the stimulus and
work to teach each other.

Look, Mrs. Hamilton, we match!

Back to back communication is not easy.
The temptation to look has to be controlled for sucessful completion of this project.
