LEGO DactaSlot Cars
Davis Creek Elementary 5th Grade

During the month of September the 5th grade at Davis Creek Elementary worked to get familiar with gears, wheels, pulleys, levers, and LEGO building principles.  The Slot Cars were part of this orientation to the LEGO Dacta Program.  The students designed a "track" to experiment with the Slot Cars to discover which car would travel farther.  Below we have pictures of the results of this project.

Overview of Slot Cars and trackThis overview of the three designs for the Slot Cars shows the resulting positions. The smaller wheeled vehicle went the farthest, but also went the slowest. As the wheel became larger the car went faster, but not as far.

Measuring for accuracyStudents measure carefully to have accurate data for their records. Students had to divide to find the average distance travelled by each Slot Car.
