Davis Creek Elementary StarShine Project September 1998

Davis Creek Elementary's 5th grade class participated in the University of Utah's StarShine Project. The students grinded and polished a small aluminum mirror. There are about 950 schools all over the world participating in this project. Ms. Rea McComas, our associate teacher from Marshall University, sponsored this project at our school. We have written our names on a school letterhead which will be reduced to a microdot and placed on the back of our mirror. Our mirror is number 533! The mirror will be sent to the University of Utah to be assembled into a satellite to be launched on the Atlantis in May 1999 from NASA. The satellite should be visible at twilight for about six weeks. We will also track the satellite over the Internet during that time. Be sure to watch for our satellite and mirror number 533 as it circles the earth with our names in outer space!
