The fifth grade class at Davis Creek Elementary started designing and building the Christmas Factory at the beginning of December.  Each student in the class was placed on a team to build part of the factory.  Next, they had to decide how the machines would be connected to work together.  Each week more refinement was done until the factory could operate on its own.  The Christmas packages traveled throughout the factory until it reaches the stamper, where it is stamped and processed to the "finished" bin.
Christmas Factory Description Written by 5th Grade Class
Our glistening festive LEGO Christmas Factory has several different machines that work mechanically together to produce beautifully designed and wrapped packages.
The machines are the turnstile, robotic arm, crane, conveyor belts, pneumatic arm, stamper, governor, and a modified pneumatic lift.  The crane picks up the package and drops it into the pneumatic lift where it slides down onto a belt conveyor.  Next, the pneumatic arm moves the package onto another belt conveyor and then onto a roller conveyor, where the second stage of the machine is tilted upward.  The packages have to be in different positions, right side up, upside down, sideways, to pass over the different conveyor belts.  The package then moves onto a roller/chain conveyor.  The robotic arm picks up the package at the end of the run and moves it to the last belt conveyor where is is first stamped, then counted, and is finally deposited as a completed product into the package bin.  the Christmas packages are finished and ready for Santa Claus to deliver to the delighted boys and girls on Christmas Eve!
