Davis Creek Elementary
LEGO Projects
using LEGO Dacta Yellow Mini Sets

To start out the LEGO building projects in the beginning of the year,  I like to use the mini sets on levers, gears, pulleys, and wheels.  It is easy to keep track of the few pieces and the clear instructions cover simple machines.   I use the Aims program rule of no pieces out of the box that are not on the model and all pieces out of the box must be on the model.
Students learn the concepts of simple machines and develop good procedures of organizing and keeping records.

The class worked in three groups of six.  They used three different mini sets. The fan uses a gear train to gear up for speed.

Students made cranes, merry-go-rounds, scales and clown faces using gears, pulleys, and beams.

The scale can  be used to weigh heavy objects when the weight is  placed on the end of the arm.

Pulleys of different sizes were used to make the face change.
